Vizio TV Stuck On Terms And Conditions

Technology can be confusing sometimes, it’s so complicated that we get frustrated from trying to figure out something on our own, like how to find an option or turn off another, Vizio TVs have been around for some time now and people tend to buy them due to their low price and good quality compared to bigger brands like LG or Samsung.

One noticeable downside of Vizio TVs is their OS or operating system, a poorly designed operating system could lead to software issues, lags, bugs… etc.

One of these bugs is that the Vizio TV gets stuck on the terms and conditions page or popup.

In this article, I lay out several solutions that could help fix this issue so follow along.

Try This Fix First

Some people on Reddit complained about similar issues on the Vizio support group and luckily the support team was able to provide a tip that could help you fix this problem, they said you should press and hold down the Volume Up and Input buttons at the same time for about 15 seconds and then see if the TV responds at all, some people reported that it helped them and others said it didn’t, maybe it depends on the model of each TV, but it won’t hurt to try it first.

Power cycle the TV

The Vizio support page recommends doing this if you have a similar issue, so try this fix if the one above didn’t work out for you.

  • Unplug the power cord from the outlet or the wall.
  • Hold down the power button on the side of the TV for 3-5 seconds (I guess this step discharges the capacitors on the main board because these capacitors store some power even after you turn off the TV).
  • Plug the TV’s power cord back in, and power on the TV.

Some TVs also have an option to ‘Soft Power Cycle’ in the menu. To access this feature, press the menu button and choose System > Reset & Admin > Soft Power Cycle.

Check for updates

It’s always recommended to check for new updates to avoid any future issues like this one, updating the TV software isn’t that hard at all, depending on what remote or TV model you have, look for the Check for Updates option, make sure to have a stable internet connection first before doing so.

Get a new remote

If you got a second-hand Vizio TV then there’s a good chance the remote didn’t come with it which will make it difficult for you to navigate through the menu or perform any basic tasks, luckily it’s not that expensive, you can get one easily on Amazon, this remote can work on many models, just double check to see if your TV model is listed on the product page on Amazon.

Reset your VIZIO Smart TV

This is the last thing you will have to do before contacting the support team or asking for a replacement if it’s still covered by warranty, resetting your Vision TV to factory defaults will delete any settings you’ve set or changed before so think twice before proceeding with this step.

As the Vizio support page recommends, these are the required steps to reset your TV to factory defaults.

  1. Using the VIZIO remote, press the Menu button.
  2. Use the Arrow buttons on the remote to highlight System and press OK.
  3. Highlight Reset & Admin and press OK.
  4. Highlight Reset TV to Factory Defaults and press OK.
  5. If you have not manually reset the parental code, please input 0 0 0 0 when it asks for the password.
  6. Highlight Reset and press OK.
  7. Wait for the TV to turn off.

The TV will turn back on and the Setup App process will begin.

SmartCast TVs may also be able to be reset by pressing and holding the input and volume down buttons on the side of the TV. After 10-15 seconds a banner will pop up saying to press and hold the input button to reset the TV to factory defaults.

Disconnect The TV From The Wi-Fi

Another user on reddit found a workaround that worked for him, you can try disconnecting your Vizio TV from the internet, you could be connected via Wi-Fi or ethernet cable, do this step just before the terms and conditions page appears, or you can skip the internet step when going through the Smartcast settings, if you’ve completed the settings process already and can’t try the previous tips then you can turn off the internet router until your TV gets past the terms and conditions page and then turn it back on when you get to the Smartcast homepage.

Contact the support team

If nothing from the solutions mentioned above worked then you should contact the support team either by phone, text messaging, or using their email or chat service, if it’s a serious problem like a hardware issue then I guess you can do nothing about but ask for a replacement if it’s available.

Get Another TV From A Different Brand

Some people complained about the Vizio brand for being less reliable and suggested spending your money on something worthwhile, if you have the money and only care about the quality then I recommend you get a TV from either Samsung or LG, they’re the best brands on the market, or, if you have a tight budget and don’t care much about quality then you should look for cheaper brands like Hisense, Onn, TCL and many more, but remember, don’t expect to get the same quality as the best ones like Samsung or LG, so think wisely before getting a cheap smart TV and return it right away if you notice any defects.

Conclusion

In this article, we tried to list some solutions to why your Vizio TV is stuck on terms and conditions, a weird issue that could make you scratch your head not knowing the real reason behind it, here is a recap of the things you can try in order to fix this issue:

  1. Pressing and holding down both Input and Volume Up buttons at the same time for about 30 seconds.

  1. I did not have this problem until I needed to do a factory reset because the remote had become non-responsive. When I contacted Vizio support via chat, I learned that I have no recourse when their software update process caused the problem. I’ve purchased several Vizio products. This will likely be the last one I purchase.
